We are definitely going to let you edit your contact records for other people. Right now, we’re working on giving you as much context as we can about your contacts without making you do the work of filling in their details, but we know that’s not enough on its own.
When we enable editing other people’s profiles, the edits will be private to you: in other words, if you edit someone’s profile, we’ll show you the edited version, but other people won’t see your edits. That’s because your contact data belongs to you, and we won’t share it without your consent; it’s also to protect the privacy of people who might not want their social network profiles being revealed in public.
If you have any ideas on how you would like this to work, please do let us know in the comments!

Hi Gorav,
Thanks for the kind words!
We may be able to automatically detect other extensions such as Cirrus Insight, and automatically disable our scrolling behavior. I’ll do some investigation.
However, Gmail itself now uses the floating style of scrolling when viewing conversations – its People Widget has the same scrolling properties as Rapportive. This means Cirrus Insight will get hidden even for users without Rapportive: it might be best for Cirrus Insight to add enhancements to also scroll automatically.
Best,
Lee.An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks for your thoughts. We'd really love to find a way of letting you use the Rapportive sidebar and Cirrus (and other Gmail extensions) at the same time, but it will require some coordination between the various parties, and so I'm afraid I can't promise any timeline on this. I'm sad if that means you can't use Rapportive, but I'd understand :(
One half-solution you can use if you're on a Google Apps domain (as opposed to a normal yourname@gmail.com address): instead of the Rapportive browser extension, which gives you the sidebar on the right of the conversation, you could install our contextual gadget (http://rapportive.com/google/home), which shows Rapportive data underneath every email.
To be honest, the contextual gadget is not very good, and it lacks many of the features of the Rapportive sidebar. But maybe it's better than nothing.

Hey Bill, thanks for your note. I agree that the Google Apps gadget is somewhat of a disappointment; we’re actually thinking of discontinuing it, since the environment it runs in is very restrictive and doesn’t allow us to provide the user experience we want. Also the normal Rapportive sidebar works just fine on Google Apps domains.
Best,
MartinAn error occurred while saving the comment Hey Bill, the main benefit is that the Google Apps gadget can be rolled out for all users of a domain at once, and it appears on every computer they use. By contrast, the sidebar works with a browser extension, which means that you have to individually install it on every computer you use.

Good idea, thanks! Right now we can’t find people on Skype automatically, but you can add a Skype link to your own profile: just click “add a social network” and then type skype:yourusername
Best, Martin
An error occurred while saving the comment Hi Sunil, at the moment it's only possible to make changes (such as adding a Skype link) to your own profile, not to other people's profiles. To edit your own profile, click the "My Profile" link at the bottom of the Rapportive sidebar. You'll see an "Add a social network…" link on your own profile.

Hi Adyita,
Thanks for getting in touch — it would be useful to have a “hide Rapportive” temporarily button in several cases!
Out of interest, how big are the small screens you are using?
Conrad
An error occurred while saving the comment Hi John, sorry to hear that. What other apps are you using that want to use the sidebar? Hopefully we can find a way of coexisting with them nicely.

Hello everybody,
We’ve been working hard on a Highrise Raplet, and we’re now ready to release a private beta to a very small group. The beta is invitation only at the moment; if you’d like an invite, please drop us a line at supportive@rapportive.com and let us know!
Best,
RahulAn error occurred while saving the comment Hi Allan, it's a good idea to bring Rapportive into Highrise — we may look into doing that in future, but I'm afraid it's not in our short-term plans.

Hi Philippe, thanks for your note. The way that raplets work is that every user gets to choose which raplets they want to see; we can’t just show it to everyone who looks up your profile. However, you can give the raplet link to anyone who wants to see matchFWD information in Rapportive, and they will use the raplet.
Does that help? You can also contact us directly at supportive@rapportive.com to discuss further.
Best,
MartinAn error occurred while saving the comment Hi Philippe, I see — adding a matchFWD profile is no problem. I've added you to the list of supported sites, so you should now be able to add your profile URL :)

Hi Arun,
Thanks for the note. We already try to show others’ profiles in preference to your own, but it seems like we need to get better. Do you send/receive mail for several different addresses from the same account? That might be confusing Rapportive.
Best,
MartinAn error occurred while saving the comment Ok, thanks Arun — I see what's happening. I'll look into this and see what we can do to improve Rapportive's behaviour.

Hi Emil, thanks for the suggestion. Doesn’t Gmail already show the user’s Google Talk status next to the sender name in the email?
Cheers,
MartinAn error occurred while saving the comment Ok, thanks Emil — we'll think about it. :)

Me too! In the long run we want Rapportive to work in all webmail systems and mail clients. We’ll probably work on the most popular clients first. If you know other Thunderbird users, get them to vote here!
An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks all for your support. Thunderbird is on the list of clients to support when we start our expansion into other mail clients.
@crgcas We'd love to provide an API for other (non-mail) systems to use Rapportive data, but we are limited by licensing constraints with some of our data partners. We're trying to find ways of making this happen, but unfortunately don't have a timeline yet.

We’ve made some progress on this: once you’ve connected your Google Contacts to Rapportive (http://blog.rapportive.com/address-book-inbox-together-at-last), then if you have several email addresses for a contact, we’ll recognise that the different email addresses are the same person, and show the same profile for all of them. This means you can “link” two profiles together by creating a contact in Google Contacts with both of the email addresses – however please note we could take up to a day to notice the change.
If we determine from your Google Contacts that two email addresses are the same person, that will be private to you – i.e. you’ll see the same information for that person from then on, but other people will still see them as separate. That’s because people often want to keep their personal and professional identities separate in public.
We know there are times when you want to…
An error occurred while saving the comment Hi all, thanks for your patience with this. We have done a major update on our backend which lays the groundwork for indicating that several email addresses are for the same person. We are starting work on the feature itself, but at the moment I can't yet promise how long it's going to take (we like to do things well, even if it takes a little longer). But it's definitely coming! :)

That’s an interesting idea, thanks David.
Can I clarify: when you create a note on a conversation, where do you want to see that note again?
• Just when you look at that particular conversation again?
• Or when you look at a different conversation with the same people?
• Or when you look at the Rapportive profile of any of the people on that conversation? Thanks,
MartinAn error occurred while saving the comment Hi David, thanks for the explanation. We'll see what we can do!
An idea for now: you could create a 'note' on a particular conversation by just emailing yourself within the thread? Although I realize that it might be hard to find in a long conversation, and it won't help you getting an overview, so that's not a very good solution.
We'll work something out :)
Best, Martin

An error occurred while saving the comment Hi Logan, thanks for your thoughts. I have changed the status back to "under review", because we're looking into ways of making the information more transparent. It'll take us a while to find a good solution; thanks for your patience. In the meantime, if you have any specific questions, please feel free to email us at supportive@rapportive.com and we will give you all the information we can.

to have more robust check on FB accounts. I tried with one of my email assigned with my FB account..
1 voteHi John, thanks for your note. Can you explain a bit more about what results you got, and what you were expecting? Did you see incorrect information, or just none at all?
Thanks! — Martin
An error occurred while saving the comment Hey John,
I'm sorry about the lack of information. For many people we are able to find useful profiles, but for many other people, our search currently fails. There are lots of reasons for this, and we're acutely aware of the problem (it's actually quite tricky to solve). We are working hard to improve Rapportive and get better coverage; thank you for bearing with us while we iron out these issues!
Best,

Thanks, great idea! I’d imagine this would be a huge time-saver if you do a lot of scheduling of meetings. We will look into it and figure out how we could do this nicely.
An error occurred while saving the comment Thank you for explaining, Jason — sorry for the misunderstanding. I have copied your description to the top of the idea. I can absolutely see this being useful; we will look into it and figure out how we could do this nicely.

Hey Larry, that’s a good point. We’re planning a redesign of the sidebar which will hide Raplets containing no useful information. Thanks for bearing with us as we work on this!
An error occurred while saving the comment Hi Orlando, great idea. We'd like to integrate some better feedback options into Rapportive, so that you can flag emails as appropriate.
Hey Hugh, we do already use your photo in Google Contacts if we can find it (it may take us a day or two to pick it up if you've only just added it). We might not be able to find photos that came from Google+, but if you added it yourself, then it should also appear in Rapportive. Same goes for any social network links you add to your Google Contacts.
