Allow users to specify information for their contacts
Let us specify what email addresses, social networking sites etc are shown. Could pull the data directly from Gmail's contacts, be saved on a server or locally. Several contacts have multiple email addresses and use one for email and a different one for managing various accounts. This prevents rapportive from being able to find their profiles.
We are definitely going to let you edit your contact records for other people. Right now, we’re working on giving you as much context as we can about your contacts without making you do the work of filling in their details, but we know that’s not enough on its own.
When we enable editing other people’s profiles, the edits will be private to you: in other words, if you edit someone’s profile, we’ll show you the edited version, but other people won’t see your edits. That’s because your contact data belongs to you, and we won’t share it without your consent; it’s also to protect the privacy of people who might not want their social network profiles being revealed in public.
If you have any ideas on how you would like this to work, please do let us know in the comments!

Sam, I understand the privacy implications prevent you from propagating information entered by users to the entire customer base, but how about publicly available information that Rapportive just doesn't have yet?
For example, the email address daniel at deltatangobravo dot com doesn't show an associated Quora Profile, but www.quora.com/Daniel-Burka is easy to find.
In other words, allow crowdsourcing contact data.

Hi Martin,
Thanks for your reply.
When I submitted that comment, I HAD just added the contact - but unfortunately, after more than a week, it's still not showing (for the contact I did the screenshot for).
The odd thing is, I've added a photo to another contact since then, and it's already showing :S
Also, I think it would be MUCH better if there was the ability to override any photo found on a social network with one we specify in Google Contacts, i.e. avoid this:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/hughdickson/6964263707/sizes/l/in/photostream/
I would prefer to show the photo that's on the left of that screenshot (the one I added to Google Contacts), on the right (in the Rapportive sidebar).

Hey Hugh, we do already use your photo in Google Contacts if we can find it (it may take us a day or two to pick it up if you've only just added it). We might not be able to find photos that came from Google+, but if you added it yourself, then it should also appear in Rapportive. Same goes for any social network links you add to your Google Contacts.

This feature would be awesome!
I'm occasionally seeing contacts that Rapportive has found some info for, but not a photo, and (in the sidebar in Gmail) there's a blank space where the photo should be - even though I've added a photo in Google Contacts...
...It would be MUCH more preferable if Rapportive 'defaulted' to the Google Contacts photo if there wasn't one found elsewhere (i.e. on social networks, the company's website, etc).
Here's a screenshot I did to illustrate my point:

I have people who send me emails all the time and their facebook doesn't link up because they are under an alias or something else. Let me manually fix it if I need to.

It would be great if in the Right Sidebar (which is great in Gmail) If I could add the persons details so that I can see their updates right there.

instead of this laconic message: We couldn't find this person on any social networks let me propose something.

Nikhil: thanks, that's a great idea!

Yeah this is a feature I would definitely like to see. Also, it would be great if the editor can choose to notify the contact of the edit, so they can approve it on their profile to make it a change to their public profile. This way, more people will become aware of the awesome service you guys offer.

Can I ask a quick question: do you mean change the links for your own email address or for other peoples' email addresses?

This would be good since you won't find my address anywhere 'cause I always use +addresses (like josh+twitter@gmail.com, josh+facebook@gmail.com etc)
