Out of interest: why do you want to sync your HR contacts into Google Apps? (i.e. what are you trying to achieve, and why?)

Thank you for your idea — we’re looking into ways of making this work.
Names are tricky, because they can have different spellings, can be abbreviated, and sometimes two different people can have the same name. But I’m sure we will find a way of solving this. In the meantime, thanks for bearing with us!
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedHi there — what would you like us to do with the names in the email?

An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedThanks for the comments folks. Matt, we love the twitter iPad app too — it's beautifully designed. When you use Safari for Gmail, are using the iPad optimised version of Gmail, or the classic desktop version?
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedHey folks, thanks for requesting iPad support. Please remember to tell us which email client you use, and how you imagine Rapportive working on the iPad — thanks :)

Hi James, this is an interesting idea. In these cases, how are people giving your their email address? Is it on a business card, or over the phone, or some other way?
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedThanks Jeff — if the major use case is looking people up before emailing them, we'll look into ways of adding Rapportive to Gmail's compose window :)
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedThanks James. I like the idea of somewhere in the UI where you can type emails and search for them. It's not clear yet where it should be; we'd certainly want it tucked away as it's not part of the usual use cases for Rapportive.

Hi Ankur, thanks for the suggestion. How do you imagine this working different to how we work today?
Best,
RahulAn error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedAnd thanks for the Xobni/Huddle heads-up :)
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedThanks Ankur for the clarification. I can imagine the product you describe, but we're currently building a different product. Our Gmail centricity is an optimisation currently, so we can trial different ideas; I think that we'll soon expand to other email clients.

Sorry that we don’t work well if you have Etacts enabled!
We try to fit in nicely into the Gmail interface, but unfortunately there are so many ways to customise it that we don’t always get it right!
We’ll see what we can do to coexist with customisations like this.
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedThanks for the comments folks. Peter, your suggestion to make Rapportive scroll with the window or not makes a lot of sense. We'll see what we can do.

Thanks for getting in touch, that firewall sounds awful :(.
I think we should be using HTTPS for login too, so I’ll investigate switching it over.
Thanks
ConradAn error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedThanks Scott — I have nothing to add beyond what Conrad's said, other than that I wholeheartedly agree. I just wanted to say that I'm super impressed with your heroic efforts to login :)

We already show recent tweets: just click on the Twitter link in the sidebar and it’ll expand to show their most recent tweets. (I find this pretty useful!)
We’re working on doing similar things for Facebook, LinkedIn and other networks too. We’ll probably need to ask you to log into each of those networks before we could display information from them, and it will probably only work for people you were already friends with. We’ve got some ideas on how to make integration with social networks really useful.
I’ll update here when there’s more news on this.
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedHey Sam, we are currently using Twitter's search functionality to show tweets. Unfortunately, this means that we can only show tweets made in the last 10 days or so (we're working on improving this). If you tweet now, does it show up in your profile? If not, please email supportive@rapportive.com and we'll take a look at it :)
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedSilvia, we currently don't read your Google Profile. If you email your twitter account name to us at support@rapportive.com, we'll add it for you :)
Best,

We don’t want to cheat anyone out of anything. We do believe the context we provide is a much more valuable use of the limited sidebar space than the ads it replaces; and we think that creates value both for Google and for its users.
We would of course look at adding an option to restore the ads if there was enough demand for it – but it would be hard to present a good user experience, as there just isn’t that much room in the sidebar!
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedThanks Jason; I'm sure this is obvious but I just wanted to reassure you we read every comment and don't just look at the number of votes :)

We are definitely going to let you edit your contact records for other people. Right now, we’re working on giving you as much context as we can about your contacts without making you do the work of filling in their details, but we know that’s not enough on its own.
When we enable editing other people’s profiles, the edits will be private to you: in other words, if you edit someone’s profile, we’ll show you the edited version, but other people won’t see your edits. That’s because your contact data belongs to you, and we won’t share it without your consent; it’s also to protect the privacy of people who might not want their social network profiles being revealed in public.
If you have any ideas on how you would like this to work, please do let us know in the comments!

An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedCan I ask a quick question: do you mean change the links for your own email address or for other peoples' email addresses?

We’ve made some progress on this: once you’ve connected your Google Contacts to Rapportive (http://blog.rapportive.com/address-book-inbox-together-at-last), then if you have several email addresses for a contact, we’ll recognise that the different email addresses are the same person, and show the same profile for all of them. This means you can “link” two profiles together by creating a contact in Google Contacts with both of the email addresses – however please note we could take up to a day to notice the change.
If we determine from your Google Contacts that two email addresses are the same person, that will be private to you – i.e. you’ll see the same information for that person from then on, but other people will still see them as separate. That’s because people often want to keep their personal and professional identities separate in public.
We know there are times when you want to…
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedHey Harley, we currently don't equate "username@gmail.com" and "username@googlemail.com". We're planning to let you claim addresses soon, as we think it's one of the most important missing features! Best, Rahul
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedKefyn, good to hear from you again :) I can't see how Gravatar profiles allow more than one email address — do you?
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedAdrian — we're definitely planning to support the ability to link email addresses.

Hi Mario,
This is a great idea, we’d love to get information from XING too!
I’m not yet sure when we’ll do this, or how we’ll implement it (do you happen to know if XING have an API?)
Conrad
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedHey folks, just to let you know: you can now add Xing profiles to your profile. Click on the 'my profile' link in the sidebar, then 'Add a social network' and paste in the address of your Xing profile.
This isn't quite as awesome as automatically searching for Xing profiles like we do with LinkedIn, but it's a first step.

We’ll definitely consider supporting Outlook if enough people want it. To that end, if you haven’t already, would you mind voting on this idea? We get a lot of feature requests (for which we’re very grateful!) and the votes help us to prioritise.
An error occurred while saving the comment AdminRahul Vohra (Admin, Rapportive) commentedHey folks, it's definitely technically possible. Our immediate focus is on the Gmail integration, but we will be looking at branching out soon. We'll post any updates here.
