Keep the Google ads
I find the gmail ads helpful, and I don't want to cheat google out of their money (since they provide me with great software) - is there a way to turn off ad blocking and just slide the ads down the page?
We don’t want to cheat anyone out of anything. We do believe the context we provide is a much more valuable use of the limited sidebar space than the ads it replaces; and we think that creates value both for Google and for its users.
We would of course look at adding an option to restore the ads if there was enough demand for it – but it would be hard to present a good user experience, as there just isn’t that much room in the sidebar!

I understand the UI issue, but I would also like this as an option. If I grasp everything correctly, the problem is that the window for Rapportive floats and this effectively limits the right-side column's display space to whatever is left underneath. Two reasonable solutions:
(1) The "Display Ads" option disables Rapportive's float. (Bleh, but it would work.)
(2) Start the display of ads at the bottom of the Rapportive window, but float Rapportive over the top.
Both options would allow Rapportive to play nice with others, Google Ads included.

Just wondering, what's the legal stance on having an add on like reportive that replaces the default ads? I am definitely in favor of a useful service as opposed to ads, but Shouldn't gmail ban this type of add on just because it makes them lose ad revenue? Not like they could really enforce it because they don't own firefox, but google could mention it in their TOS.

Perhaps you could find a way to show the ads via a tab or toggle - I like your features but I also have many professional reasons to want to see the ads (for one to see what companies are buying ads & how they are presenting their messages)

I wish I could use Rapportive but I have to be able to see the ads. I was hoping the ads would appear again when I logged out-- but they don't. I will have to uninstall.

Thanks Jason; I'm sure this is obvious but I just wanted to reassure you we read every comment and don't just look at the number of votes :)

If there was only an option here to vote an idea down... :)
