Allow users to manage the positioning / scrolling so Rapportive will work with Cirrus Insight
Rapportive is awesome. Cirrus insight is a great tool for users of Salesforce. They almost work together, its just when you scroll down an email thread, the rapportive section repositions itself, rather than staying at the top of the screen, so it bumps cirrus insight out of the way.
If there was a way for users to select to turn off the auto positioning / repositioning, so rapportive would remain fixed on the page, rather than moving with the scrolling, it would allow me to easily use both extensions simultaneously.
Hi Gorav,
Thanks for the kind words!
We may be able to automatically detect other extensions such as Cirrus Insight, and automatically disable our scrolling behavior. I’ll do some investigation.
However, Gmail itself now uses the floating style of scrolling when viewing conversations – its People Widget has the same scrolling properties as Rapportive. This means Cirrus Insight will get hidden even for users without Rapportive: it might be best for Cirrus Insight to add enhancements to also scroll automatically.
Best,
Lee.

Lee,
Cirrus Insight does (now) scroll automatically, but Rapportive pushes it below the fault. If we could just turn of the scrolling behaviour of the rapportive field would solve this. Or add a button to temporarily collapse it in a specific email?
Thanks

Thanks for your thoughts. We'd really love to find a way of letting you use the Rapportive sidebar and Cirrus (and other Gmail extensions) at the same time, but it will require some coordination between the various parties, and so I'm afraid I can't promise any timeline on this. I'm sad if that means you can't use Rapportive, but I'd understand :(
One half-solution you can use if you're on a Google Apps domain (as opposed to a normal yourname@gmail.com address): instead of the Rapportive browser extension, which gives you the sidebar on the right of the conversation, you could install our contextual gadget (http://rapportive.com/google/home), which shows Rapportive data underneath every email.
To be honest, the contextual gadget is not very good, and it lacks many of the features of the Rapportive sidebar. But maybe it's better than nothing.
Best,

Thanks for pointing me towards this post. This is exactly the issue that I'm seeing as well. Do you have any suggestions for what i can do in the mean-time to ensure that I can continue to use Cirrus? I agree that they need to change something on their side and have filed a similar bug with them, however in the meantime I can't operate without access to Cirrus.
I understand you've got a long list of bug's with votes and certain weight placed upon it. Cirrus is a relatively new product, but is one of the best for integrating G-mail and salesforce that I've used (and we tried them all), so I suspect you'll start to see more of these similar requests, as G-Mail becomes more widely adopted by enterprise users. I only say this because I hope to continue to use both products, and wanted to help provide some reasoning to move it forward.
In the meantime, keep thinkings of awesome ways to help connect people!
Thanks

Thanks Lee,
I realized last night that the issue may be Cirrus non-scrolling rather than rapportive's scrolling. I had rapportive installed first so I guess thats how I pinned down the issue. I'm going to post that Cirrus should enable automatic scrolling, and then I could have both rapportive, cirrus, and the people widget all up at once.
