Allow users to collapse rapportive pane.
I really value my screen real estate, esp. when I find myself on a small screen laptop. It'd be great if users could simply collapse/minimize the rapportive pane.
To see the rapportive pane take up so much space really frustrates the hell out of me at times (I'm not fond of the email experience to begin with). Right now, my other option is to flat out uninstall the tool (seriously considering it), which blows, esp. given how easily it can be fixed.
55 votesHi Adyita,
Thanks for getting in touch — it would be useful to have a “hide Rapportive” temporarily button in several cases!
Out of interest, how big are the small screens you are using?

Make Rapportive play better with other Gmail customisations
Rapportive block is moving with scrolling up and down and this cause it to overcome on other blocks and makes both unreadable.
For example, I've currently Rapportive block and Etacts (etacts.com) on the right hand side. When I scroll down, Rapportive block comes over Etacts block and making reading any of the information in both to be impossible.
51 votesSorry that we don’t work well if you have Etacts enabled!
We try to fit in nicely into the Gmail interface, but unfortunately there are so many ways to customise it that we don’t always get it right!
We’ll see what we can do to coexist with customisations like this.

Opera Extension
Now that Opera 11 will feature extensions, would you consider making one for the browser?
:)
48 votesHi Roy, sure, we will consider it. :)
It will depend though how much demand there is. (We don’t even support Internet Explorer yet…) -
Accommodate the new Compose format in Gmail
There is a new Compose format in Gmail where they open the new email in the bottom right, similar to the IM. Unfortunately, it's larger than IM and covers up the Rapportive information. Is there a way to present the info in a way that accommodates this new format, which seems to have some strong benefits?

Allow me to add my blog to my profile
When editing my profile I should be able to add a link to my blog or provide a standard RSS feed.
46 votesWe definitely want to support this.
If you use one of the big hosted blogging platforms – e.g. Blogger, Tumblr, Posterous, Wordpress – then this should work right now: see http://rapportive.com/faq#features. Let us know if the platform you use isn’t supported.
If you host your own blog, or you use the “personalised URL” feature of one of those platforms, it would be really helpful if you could leave a comment here telling us what blogging software you use, so we can work out the best way to support this. (Please don’t link to your blog in the comments, but feel free to email a link to support@rapportive.com if it would help to explain how your blog is set up.)

Option to hide users, or the ex-wife feature
We could have an option to hide specific users, so that not a single social information about them are shown - not even public tweets or anything.
This could be called "ex-wife feature", for instance.
43 votesHi,
Thanks for the idea :)
How were you imaging this to work — would they also not be able to see your profile?

minimize the space Rapportive takes up on Gmail if no lookup is found
Quit hogging my gmail space! Especially if you can't find anything, be courteous enough to get out of the way and not use up my valuable screen space
43 votesWe’re looking at ways to be less obtrusive when we couldn’t find any information, and also at ways to find more information :) Hiding the sidebar is a good idea.

Integration with Evernote
Hello! I'm really enjoying Rapportive! It seems much easier, faster and more intuitive than the corporate-based Xobni. I do have one idea: are there any plans to build in an Evernote integration similar to Xobni? The reason why I think this would be so powerful would be:
1. The ability to integrate note about contacts directly into Evernote.
2. Save contact information from Rapportive directly to Evernote.
3. Browse notes about that contact already tagged in Evernote.
Thanks so much and great job on a really helpful tool!
Daniel

That’s an awesome idea! (And very clearly explained, thank you).
We didn’t have any plans to do this, but now you’ve mentioned it…. :)

Hi Joe,
Thanks for adding this :). For the record, what do you use the notes in Google Contacts for?

Provide a search interface to get info about an email address outside of an email
When someone gives me their email address, I'll frequently email it to myself in order to check if I can also connect with them on Twitter, etc.
It would be great to have a search interface for this, to save me the trouble of emailing myself. This might fit within the 'Rapportive' menu, just above the 'Logged in as' / 'Add rapplet' items.37 votesHi James, this is an interesting idea. In these cases, how are people giving your their email address? Is it on a business card, or over the phone, or some other way?

Integration to SugarCRM
I would like to be able to add an email to either a contact, account, opportunity or project within SugarCRM. There is a project called DolceGmail that tried to implement this.

Find people on Skype automatically
I would like to see the Skype links for my contacts in Rapportive, so that I can contact them easily. The links should appear automatically, even for those people who don't have Rapportive installed.
36 votesGood idea, thanks! Right now we can’t find people on Skype automatically, but you can add a Skype link to your own profile: just click “add a social network” and then type skype:yourusername
Best, Martin

Stop slowing down my gmail loading times...
I really like the app, but these days, you seems to have some delays on some logging stuff above logging in gmail...
this means that I have blank time with "connecting to rapportive" or some stuff...
I can't afford to wait for gmail to load (fast load time is why I like it)
do your stuff after logging or do it faster, or I will (regretly) have to stop using your app
35 votesReally sorry if we’re making Gmail take longer to load! That’s a bug, and we’ll fix it.

Fix Vertical split
Up until a few weeks ago, my vertical split screen worked fine with Rapportive. Now, it disappears and only comes back when preview pane is not engaged. It doesnt show up with either horizontal or vertical. Is there any work around? I have searched and dont see other people reporting this problem. Is anyone else having it?

Keep the Google ads
I find the gmail ads helpful, and I don't want to cheat google out of their money (since they provide me with great software) - is there a way to turn off ad blocking and just slide the ads down the page?
34 votesWe don’t want to cheat anyone out of anything. We do believe the context we provide is a much more valuable use of the limited sidebar space than the ads it replaces; and we think that creates value both for Google and for its users.
We would of course look at adding an option to restore the ads if there was enough demand for it – but it would be hard to present a good user experience, as there just isn’t that much room in the sidebar!

So is rapportive support with the new gmail interface?
If yes, what do I have to do to enable it?
if no, is there a plan to support it in future?34 votes -
Is the contact available on IM right now?
It would be useful to be able to see if the contact is online, NOW, in real time (when reading the email) — on Facebook chat, Yahoo messenger, Google Talk etc..
34 votesThat’s an interesting idea — thank you! It’s something we should consider.

Sender's time zone (or current time)
In the sender's profile, on mouse-over their location, display their time zone or current time. (I'd consider this low priority, but useful feature)
32 votesHi Hristo,
We’ve thought about doing this a bit — in the meantime you might want to enable the “Sender Time Zone” feature in Google Labs.
Please let me know how you get on,
Conrad

Show the group actions buttons from the People Widget
Rapportive currently doesn't provide a way to "Start a group chat". "invite everyone to a Google Calendar event", or "email the current group of people".
32 votesHi All,
We’re planning to do this, if you vote for this idea, we’ll be able to prioritise accordingly; and as a nice bonus, we’ll let you know when it’s done :).
