  1. The idea behind Rapportive is great but absolutely not everyone is on social networks. Think of a business email: no, they're not registered on Facebook. Besides, our Contacts section in gmail is full of information and, possibly, profile pictures.

Hello Everyone, this has finally been finished! :).

Just go to the Rapportive sidebar, click on “my profile” at the bottom, and hover over anything you want to change.

    Thanks for your patience!
    Conrad

P.S. Now that this is completed, you can re-invest your votes into other stories — would be great to hear what we should do next!

  3. I get notification emails from service@linode.com, notifications from noreply@ebay.com, marketing emails from info@tripbod.com, invoices from support@tunnlr.com

Rapportive should be able to detect non-human From addresses and provide an appropriate panel of information and links.

Information could be as simple as company data (from linked in or companies house).

Links should be something like the google "site links" for the company's domain name, or the most common links on a company's website. Ideally these will be influenced by my browser history so that the links I click on most have highest prominence. (eg. the "my account" link for…

When you read an email from a company address or automated system, we’ll now show you a summary of what the company is about, and some useful links for interacting with that company, such as their blog or support site.

The company profiles and links are extracted automatically from the companies’ websites, and our algorithms aren’t perfect. If you see something that looks odd, or could be more helpful, please do email us at support@rapportive.com with the email address you received the message from. That will help us to keep tweaking our algorithms and be useful in more cases.

Thanks for all your suggestions and examples in the comments – they were invaluable in getting this to work.

  4. I run several different addresses out of 1 gmail account. Rapportive currently only recognises 1, and the data is outdated. I'd like put more of my information into it, but can't.

    Hi all,

I’m pleased to let you know that you can now edit the Rapportive profile for all of your email addresses.

To get started, login to Gmail and select “Claim your email addresses” from the Rapportive menu (located at the top of Gmail). You can read all about the feature on our blog, here:
    http://blog.rapportive.com/claim-your-email-addresses

Now that this idea is marked as completed, we’d love for you to use your forum votes to let us know which other ideas you want to see in Rapportive.

    Thanks again for your patience!

We now detect whether contacts have a Google Profile, and if they do, we use the information in the profile to fill out what we show in the sidebar for them. This should make our sidebar more accurate, and help us show data where previously we couldn’t find anything for a contact.

You can now delete notes that you’ve written – sorry that this was unavailable for so long! We understand how annoying it can be to keep seeing a note that’s no longer relevant, or was left as a test.

We’re planning a big revamp of notes, and we’ll look at supporting editing as part of that.

(The way we use notes, we haven’t yet found a need to edit them – we just add a new note if the old one is wrong or out of date!)

Just to reiterate, notes are private – other people can’t see notes you wrote. So if you’ve written a note you think someone else shouldn’t see, don’t worry – they can’t!

  7. When a contact is displayed on the right, I'd love to get a link to quickly go to a Gmail view where I can see all the emails exchanged with that contact

    Hi everyone,

Sorry about the delay on this idea. I’m happy to announce that the Rapportive sidebar will now show the 5 most recent conversations next to a contact profile. We completed this work as part of the integration of Rapportive and Google’s People Widget. This means that any time the data is available from Google, we will display it in the Rapportive sidebar.

Now that this forum idea has been marked as completed, you’ll get back any forum votes you applied here – please take a look at the other ideas in the forum and add your vote, or create an exciting new idea!

    Kind regards,
    Lee.

  8. It would be nice not to leak my contacts through URLs using in XHR, perhaps by POSTing using HTTPS, rather than GETing over HTTP.

Also, I access gmail through https://mail.google.com, in gmail my console log warns me that The page at https://mail.google.com/mail/?[...] ran insecure content from http://rapportive.com/api/v1/[...] - not the end of the world, but I'm a believer that all traffic should go over TLS :)

    Hi guys,

Just to let you know that Rapportive now works with the preview pane, so you no longer need to choose between the two :).

    Thanks for waiting!

We now fully support Google Apps, with straightforward login. Sorry it took us so long to sort this out! If this was causing you to hold off, please try again, and you should find it works much more smoothly now.

(N.B. if you have a Google Apps Premier account and see an error saying “single sign-in is disabled”, see our FAQ: http://rapportive.com/faq#installation)

We now try to detect whether you have a Google Profile, and display a link to it. We can’t always detect it automatically, but you can also add a link yourself: just log in to Rapportive, click “My Profile” at the bottom of the sidebar, click “Add a social network”, and paste in the address of your Google Profile.

  14. I have a good number of friends whose email addresses link to a Facebook account that is set to private. However, if Rapportive utilized Facebook Connect, it could pull that Facebook information into my notes.

    Hello,

We’ve just added support for multiple accounts to Rapportive — you can have as many Twitter accounts as you like :).

Hope this helps, and if you have more ideas for making Rapportive better, please let us know!

  17. It would be great if instead of opening Skype when clicking on a contact's number it uses Gmail's built in calling or Google Voice as an VOIP service! At least an option in settings.

Hi folks, if your Gmail has Google Voice enabled, you can now use it call numbers right from Rapportive! You can see it in action here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sg2vfenSark

Please do let us know how it works for you :)

[If your Gmail doesn’t yet have Google Voice enabled (some Google Apps accounts do not yet), then clicking on phone numbers will still show the phone number bright and large so it is easy to enter into your phone.]

    Best,
    Rahul

ps. now that we’ve completed this idea, you’ve got more votes to spend on other ideas — please do let us know what you think we should do :)

  18. Gmail detects when emails refer to appointments, locations and shipping notices, and adds links to the sidebar to (respectively) add the appointment to the calendar, map the location, or track the package. Rapportive removes these along with the ads. Please restore them!

We’ve now added these useful links back to the Rapportive sidebar. We should show them whenever Gmail normally would.

Gmail does seem to be a bit inconsistent about when it actually decides to show these links. Even if an email does contain (e.g.) a shipping notice, Gmail doesn’t always show the tracking link (and so neither do we).

If you do find an email where the links do appear with Rapportive not installed, but are missing with Rapportive, it would be much appreciated if you could forward it to support@rapportive.com so we can troubleshoot.

  19. @googlemail.com addresses should be interpreted as @gmail.com.
