The display gets messed up if you use "right side chat".
It does it for every user. Myself and most of my colleagues use right-side chat, so this is a bummer.

Did you try with labs disabled (https://mail.google.com/mail/?labs=0)? I did and still had the same problem, so I guess it's not right side chat's fault...
