Pull information from Google Profiles
If a contact has a Google Profile, add the information in the profile to what is shown about them in the sidebar.
We now detect whether contacts have a Google Profile, and if they do, we use the information in the profile to fill out what we show in the sidebar for them. This should make our sidebar more accurate, and help us show data where previously we couldn’t find anything for a contact.

This is now 'broken' for the new Google+ (Plus) accounts. The old 'Google Profile' is now replaced by a new (Plus) profile address that looks like this:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/12345678901234568901/posts
Please FIX! Thanks, -JT

Not JUST Google profiles - these are not enabled in 'Standard Google Apps' accounts, yet - but any data (e.g. contact photo's) that may already be stored as part of the google contact. E.g. my brother doesn't have a Google Profile, but I have a photo of him on his contact details within my account. You read his telephone and email details, so why don't you display his photo, too..?

Deane, we shouldn't be deleting your information under any circumstances. Could you shoot an email to support@rapportive.com with details of what information has gone missing? Thanks.

Why can't I integrate all my email address under one profile? And even more important... how come whenever I update one email address profile it deletes all of my information for my other email address profiles... Duh!

I was of the impression that my details came from my Google Profile. The issue I have is that although I edited my profile for my GMail address, I also use Google App and for some reason it seems profile data is pulled from there or elsewhere as I sometimes see my unedited profile with the same position shown multiple times. Doesn't make me look good to other users who see that.

Google profiles are almost ridiculously easy to crawl: http://petewarden.typepad.com/searchbrowser/2010/03/how-to-gather-the-google-profiles-data-set.html
It really would be a big plus to add this data to the user profile.

+1 vote. This would be nice. Same as others, I have multiple addresses and use Google apps for work so would be nice to have a different work/personal profile.
Ideally, it would be possible to enable grab data from the user profile only if you're in my contacts list. That way only colleagues / suppliers / customers could see your details. That might require Google's help but it's an idea. My public profile is turned off for google so not much there.

I came here to post a similar topic: rapportive could encourage its users to populate their Google profile to help get themselves found.
Two things are an issue for some of the above suggestions for doing so for my profile:
1) to avoid spam bots, I do not use my main google account for sign-ups around the social web, so you wont find me by searching for my gmail addy.
2) also to protect from spam, i do not use a vanity google profile, but the random generated id, which i link to w/ bit.ly in my email signature and other places (e.g. here http://bit.ly/cbyrne).
so while granted i am not a typical case, as user profile perhaps this can help. i do however have a well documented google profile, so if you could somehow access that via the auth i give inside my own gmail, good information could be covered with one process.
great service!

i don't know how it would be done from a technical perspective, but i agree that this would help rapportive a lot. currently i use a different email address for everything i sign up for online to prevent spam (e.g. kim4nytimes, kim4thestranger, etc) so searching by an email address will never pull up most of my online profiles. but since google profile searches by username, it found a lot more stuff, and since i was able to manually add things it now has most of my various social sites.

This would also allow you to find other social networks for people. My profile (http://www.google.com/profiles/gblinckmann) will point you to Blogger, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Picasa Web, and Google Reader. For me, all you are picking up is my (mostly unused) Flickr account.

When crawling the web the information regarding a specific Gmail email address, the software can check if that Google account has a Google Profile by using the following pattern:
http://www.google.com/profiles/%username%For example rapportive@gmail.com turns into http://www.google.com/profiles/rapportive
The Google Profile holds lots of information that can really enhance Rapportive's information database.

Thanks Oren! Could you describe a little how this might work?
