This is a good idea, we’ll be changing our login system over the next fortnight, so it’s important to appreciate the difference between the GMail address and the Rapportive user’s authenticated email address. While at the moment there’s only one Rapportive user in a browser, we expect that to change.

Data from LinkedIn is out-of-date
The information shown from LinkedIn is a few months old. If I go directly to the person's profile on LinkedIn, different information shows than what shows in Rapportive
4 votesThanks so much! We’re working on improving our integrations, and will update here when we’ve got some news on this :)

Hi Rob,
We should do this, but our system has been a bit overloaded for the last while, so we had to turn it off.
I’ll let you know when we turn it back on again — hopefully it won’t be too long.

eliminate duplicate info
In lots of profiles I am seeing duplicate information. For example, johnw-AT-newartisans.com shows this entry twice: "President at New Artisans LLC (Sole Proprietorship)"
3 votesDave — thanks for the idea!
I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, I’ll bump it up the TODO list again.

Hi Josh, thanks for the idea — this sounds really interesting.
What kind of database did you have in mind?
Would the idea be to submit the databases for one user (or a few users) only, or were you thinking about public databases to enhance the information for everyone?

Search for hashtags
You should search not just by email but based on subject line too, and not only in account names but in hashtags
3 votesHi Annie — This sounds like an exciting thing to do.
Just to clarify, what kind of information would you envisage us showing based on the subject line?

When I hit the "refresh" button, it should only refresh rapportive
I just lost a freshly started draft after hitting the refresh button from the "whats new" type announcement.
Frustrating.
I thought it would just refresh the rapportive frame.
0 votesSorry for multiple updates here. The refresh button does unfortunately need to refresh the whole Gmail tab, not just the Rapportive sidebar. Sometimes when we add new features or fix bugs we need to reload the code that makes Rapportive work, and that only gets loaded when you open Gmail – so to make sure it gets updated properly we have to refresh the whole tab. We try very hard to avoid making changes that require this refresh, but sometimes it’s unavoidable.
However, Gmail usually warns you before refreshing the window if you click the Refresh button while you’re writing an email. It should pop up a window saying something like “you have work unsaved, really leave this window?” Really sorry that didn’t happen in this case and you lost work. It doesn’t warn you if it’s already saved the draft, but then you’d have seen your email in the…

Hide raplet when no data is available (ex. Crunchbase on non-famous ppl)
I have the CrunchBase raplet enabled. A lot of the people I talk to don't have CrunchBase pages dedicated to them. As such, the raplet is always saying "no data available for XYZ". It would be great if this could be hidden when there's nothing to say.
5 votesHey Larry, that’s a good point. We’re planning a redesign of the sidebar which will hide Raplets containing no useful information. Thanks for bearing with us as we work on this!

Create a refresh button
I updated my web site to point from flavors.me to Google Profiles, which should provide Rapportive with better details.
However, there's no way for me to indicate to Rapportive that things have changed. Is it possible to add a "refresh" button to indicate the data might be stale?
10 votesHey Chris. I agree that a refresh button would be cool, but the hard thing from our point of view is making it work like you think it should – it’s quite probable that we’re not looking in the place you’ve changed, for example.
Our cache expiry time for most data is around 2 weeks – which we hope isn’t unreasonably long to wait – but if you’d like me to hurry things along, just drop me a note at supportive@rapportive.com with the url you updated.
The second problem that you may be running into is that we don’t yet take all the information available on your Google profile – we will shortly!

Add appointments to calendar from Rapportive
I have a service based business, so I set up sales demos and recurring appointments. I create these in Google Calendar and invite the other person (by putting their email address under "attendees"). I would like rapportive to show a list of all appointments with that individual from most current back, or a list of the most current 5 then option to show more... So next time they contact me via email, I can see when our last few appointments were, and if possible click on the appointment and it would be linked to that calendar event to open to…
16 votesThanks, great idea! I’d imagine this would be a huge time-saver if you do a lot of scheduling of meetings. We will look into it and figure out how we could do this nicely.

Improve coverage (find information for more people)
For me, Rapportive has only found information on 1 out of about 30 people. It appears as if Rapportive has no real functionality, other than taking away the ads on the right of my Gmail screen. Am I doing something wrong?
0 votesThanks for your feedback. For many people we are able to find useful profiles, but for many other people, our search currently fails. There are lots of reasons for this, and we’re acutely aware of the problem. We are working hard to improve Rapportive; thank you for bearing with us while we iron out these issues!

Quieten Rapportive down
I've just loaded Rapportive. My initial impression is that it's distracting. The font size is far larger than the text of my email messages. I also don't like the nagware feel of being asked repeatedly to log in..
6 votesHi guys, we’ve looked into this issue but we cant replicate it.
On Firefox, the Gmail body is 12.8px; on Chrome, it is 13px. In both cases, we’re matching it.
Are you still seeing this issue?

Use URLs from email or sig for images
For people whose email addresses' domains also have a website, you could peek into the site and display images from the site like happens on Facebook when posting a link from a page.
I understand this is magic, but it seems like you could do this well below a certain popularity of domain (after the top million?).
Also, and perhaps more reliably, you could look at URLs in the sig of the message.
This would give more ways to see what the person looks like online overall, not just social networks. This would be more helpful than social networks for…
5 votesNifty idea. I like it! We already pull text, links and a small shortcut icon from companies’ web pages, so this is just a step further.

Support Google Profiles for Google Apps users.
I have a "transitioned" Google Apps account, so my Google Apps account looks more like a regular Gmail account. Everything works perfectly, but my Google Profile is not www.google.com/profile/myname but rather www.google.com/a/mydomainname/myname. Rapp doesn't like it. Can you check this out?
7 votesThis is on our todo list, and I’ll keep you updated as things progress. Thanks for the clear information!

Fix Rapportive it locks Safari up if you use google reader.
Lock Safari up, or causes Safari to run very slow, especially while using Google Reader
3 votesSorry to hear we’re slowing down your Safari. We’ll look into this. It shouldn’t happen – are you quite sure it only happens when you have Rapportive enabled? Are there other sites besides Google Reader where it goes slow? Does it slow down when you’re in Gmail?

the software should search by first and last name,
some time if you have email coming from work email like ira@microsoft.com but this email(person) ira@microsoft.com not exist in the internet, but ira@gmail.com exist, the software should know hot to Distinguish between them, and display ira@gmail.com even the email sender is ira@microsoft.com
3 votesThanks for the idea! It is quite likely that we’ll find different people with the same name — perhaps we could ask the user which person is right?

Allow me to enter an email/linkedin/fb/twitter ID to find the rest of the email
Flowtown.com did this at one point (sorry for the plug)
right now, I'm emailing myself with the email I want to find out then hovering over it.
also, i don't always have their email. if we could use a linkedin ID to find FB, twitter and the rest, that would be awesome.
3 votesHI Zack,
We’re thinking about something like this — after all, it’d make our lives easier when we’re trying to find things ourselves :).

Rapportive should not be intrusive
If Rapportive does not find any social information for my contacts, it should not show anything (empty, tiny, and possibly hidden). This way I can easily read messages from people who don't belong to a social network.
3 votesHi IrFan — thanks for getting in touch! We’ve some plans to make Rapportive both less noisy and more useful when we can’t find any social networks. I’ll keep you updated as things progress

Rapportive shouldn't be obscured by Gmail tasks list
When I pop up the Gmail task list, it covers up Rapportive. I would like to be able to see both my task list and Rapportive.
1 voteOk, I see what is happening here. Thank you for letting us know (I never use the tasks myself, so I didn’t notice!). I have noted the problem and will see what we can do to fix it.
For now, it’s probably best if you pop out your tasks into a separate window.
Best, Martin

Add a link to raplets from rapportive sidebar
I was looking for raplets in the sidebar vs the rapportive link up top. Figured others may be doing the same. :)
