    Hi Yoav,

Great idea :). We’re planning to work on some new design ideas for Rapportive, so we’ll try to incorporate some more images in the future.

    Thanks again,

    Hey Ashwin,

Thanks for getting in touch :)

We’ve made a start on this, so we ignore uppercase vs. lowercase differences in all email addresses, and various .s and +s in gmail addresses.

We’re not yet sure how safe it is to ignore .s and +s in email addresses than aren’t gmail. We’ll do some more analysis, and update Rapportive accordingly.

Hi Dave, that’s a great idea, thank you. We’re currently looking into ways of making more efficient use of screen space, and making Rapportive adapt better to small or very large screens. I think it should be possible to collapse the sidebar when space is tight.

If you prefer Rapportive below emails rather than to the right, and you’re on Google Apps, you could try this alternative version of Rapportive: http://rapportive.com/google/home — although it currently doesn’t have all the features of the regular Rapportive.

    Best,
    Martin

Hi Keith, good idea, thanks — I can imagine that an animation would be really annoying! We’ll have to look into this to see what we can do.

In the meantime, can you just discourage your contacts from using animated GIFs? :)

    Best, Martin

  8. If Rapportive has been used for some amount of time, if a user stops using it for some interval, he should get a single email reminder. He may have reinstalled his OS or switched browsers. The Rapportive logo is tiny and not memorable, which may lead to people forgetting the name. People may not know Rapportive is available for alternate browsers either.

If you want to be really cautious, you could display the option to opt in or out of the reminder within the Rapportive sidebar itself after a few weeks' use.

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for getting in touch, and an interesting idea :).

There are other reasons we might want to email these people, for example to find out why they’ve stopped using Rapportive; but we’ll certainly have to find a way of doing it that doesn’t look like spam.

    Hey Ray,

We’re planning to do something similar to this — but instead of a thumbnail, just a little snippet of text, along with some helpful links (to the FAQ, or the Blog, or the Contact Us page in addition to the homepage).

Thumbnails are kind of cool — but it’s hard to get across enough useful information — so maybe we’ll come back to them later, but it might not be necessary,

    Hi Aric,

The MailChimp raplet is controlled by MailChimp themselves, I’ll try and forward your suggestion onto them, but it might have more weight if you ask them yourself.

    Thanks

    Hi Rohit,

That’s a very interesting idea, but I’m not sure it’s something that all of our users want. (One of the things people love about Rapportive is the lack of adverts on the right of their Gmail).

What might be much better is a Raplet that showed coupons — so people can easily opt in to seeing these if they want to.

Would that be a good compromise?
    Conrad

  15. I would like to see "Here are other similar people in the company/role" based on the current Rapportive profile I am seeing. I mostly care about this info from Linkedin, others might find it useful from sites like FB, HN, Quora, etc.

This is a really good idea — I imagine it being particularly useful if your contact at a company leaves, or is unresponsive!

We’ll certainly look into this more in the future,

  16. On http://www.ufirstgroup.com/ (for example) we embedded the company contact data using microformats. That way it can be automatically extracted by tools like rapportive.

This would help us find more information for company addresses, although I’m not sure how many companies actually use microformats on their website. If you have gone to the trouble of doing this, please let us know here!

  17. When you have a long conversation in Gmail the entire tab in Chrome freezes while rapportive loads all the data. So if rapportive could detect how many are loading and then just limit itself that would be awesome.

Hi Tim, thanks for your feedback. We’d love to do this, but as far as I’m aware, Google doesn’t give us any way of doing this. Our gadget can’t even detect how many times it is shown on a conversation!

An alternative to the contextual gadget I can recommend our browser extension (for Firefox, Chrome or Safari) which you can download from http://rapportive.com — it shows one sidebar next to the whole conversation, instead of a separate gadget for each message, and it is also more fully-featured.

Thanks David, that would be useful. We used to discover Stack Overflow profiles automatically, but found that it had performance problems. Hopefully we can re-enable them when the API has improved.

  19. My website has a generic info@ to capture inbound interest from new users. I get a ton of emails every day but it takes too long to get back to each of them. When I do, though, my users love the personalized response that Rapportive allows me to offer (even if they haven't provided their name/location/etc.). One alternative to responding more quickly is the standard, impersonal, auto-reply - but we all know those totally suck. So what I'd like to do is scrape the name/location from Rapportive, plug those into an auto-reply shell, and buy some time on a proper…

Hi Benjamin, that’s an interesting idea, thank you! At the moment we unfortunately don’t have a way of personalising auto-responders. But it’s something to consider.

In what way are you thinking about personalising the messages? Do you simply plug in the sender’s name in the greeting line, or is it more complicated than that?

  20. should not list someone's tweets at the bottom of email that person has emailed - obnoxious and intrusive. When I supply an email to my twitter account, that should be private, even to cmopanies such as yours.

    Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch. If you want any information removed from Rapportive, please email me at supportive@rapportive.com and I’ll fix it for you immediately.

We’ve found that most people are happy to have their tweets shown in this manner, though obviously we can’t keep everyone happy. You may also be interested in Twitter’s “protected tweets” feature, which stops random people from being able to read your tweets.

    Hope this is helpful,
    Conrad
