if you have .edu or .ac email addresses why not search their universities for their websites
Most academics maintain a website with their personal data & these are usually easy to find if you cant find any linkedin data
4 votesHi Ian,
Thanks for the idea — we’re definitely going to be looking for more sources of information in the future. University websites, as you say, seem like an easier place to start than the internet as a whole.

mailchimp signon doesn't seem to validate correctly
When already in a rap session on a user info screen & not signed into mailchimp the Login to Mailchimp is there - when clicked a separate window opens & after signing in no matter what I do (even log out back into rap it doesn't recognize i'm signed into mailchimp - ideas? Should I be signed into mailchimp before I sign into gmail?
2 votesHi Marvin, which browser are you using for Gmail? Generally yes, you do need to be signed into Mailchimp in the same browser as your Gmail tab before you can use the Raplet.
If the login through the Raplet doesn’t work, please can you let Mailchimp know, since they provide the Raplet :)
Thanks!

Let me login to Rapportive using https
Please let me login to rapportive using https. My abusive IT firewall denies me access to your service. I'm forced to try to login; sniff the url that you're using; paste it in a new tab; change the protocol to https; and sumbit manually.... all before your (google's?) system times out.
It's a PITA
3 votesThanks for getting in touch, that firewall sounds awful :(.
I think we should be using HTTPS for login too, so I’ll investigate switching it over.
Thanks

Hi Shahar,
That’s very odd. For the moment, we’re just showing what Gmail finds for package numbers and maps, etc. I’m not sure we can fix it directly, but we may look into writing support ourselves in the future. We’ll watch out for this problem then,
Thanks

Hi Nikodem, thanks for getting in touch.
Eventually, we’d like to use all the data-sources we can find, particularly for non-English speakers, we don’t find as much as we should yet. Hopefully this will be fixed as time goes on.

Data from LinkedIn is out-of-date
The information shown from LinkedIn is a few months old. If I go directly to the person's profile on LinkedIn, different information shows than what shows in Rapportive
4 votesThanks so much! We’re working on improving our integrations, and will update here when we’ve got some news on this :)

eliminate duplicate info
In lots of profiles I am seeing duplicate information. For example, johnw-AT-newartisans.com shows this entry twice: "President at New Artisans LLC (Sole Proprietorship)"
3 votesDave — thanks for the idea!
I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, I’ll bump it up the TODO list again.

API for adding Rapportive to my web app
I work on a few sites that have Member Profile pages. It would be awesome to add the Rapportive sidebar to them just like I do to Gmail, or open an API where I could send an email address or phone number to Rapportive and it returns a JSON array of everything you know about that person so I could build it myself. Thanks!
197 votesThanks for getting in touch,
We have vague plans to allow sites to embed Rapportive in the future, though it’s likely to be a while before that happens.
I’ll keep you in the loop,

Choose default email address or avatar.
After you guys implement the 'email claim' feature to allow multiple email addresses per profile, could you guys add the option to choose a 'default email' for people to reply to when viewing your profile?
This also got me thinking about the issue of gravatars -- I have multiple gravatars for different email addresses... I was going to ask if you guys could give us the option to choose which gravatar to use for the profile, but I suppose if you just add the option to choose a 'default email' for the profile, we can go change it manually.
7 votesHi Nick,
We’ll probably structure the claiming email feature so that you implicitly merge other emails into your default account. This won’t give you the ability to change what the default is, but, now you’ve suggested it, maybe we should have that too :).
Thanks for the idea,

Hi Adam, thanks for getting in touch. We’d certainly like people to be able to make their profiles exactly how they want them.
Perhaps a good first step would be if we defined a sensible default order — at the moment we go Twitter, Facebook, Linked-in, and then the rest are random. Should we include more things in that list, or order it differently?

Hi Rob,
We should do this, but our system has been a bit overloaded for the last while, so we had to turn it off.
I’ll let you know when we turn it back on again — hopefully it won’t be too long.

the software should search by first and last name,
some time if you have email coming from work email like ira@microsoft.com but this email(person) ira@microsoft.com not exist in the internet, but ira@gmail.com exist, the software should know hot to Distinguish between them, and display ira@gmail.com even the email sender is ira@microsoft.com
3 votesThanks for the idea! It is quite likely that we’ll find different people with the same name — perhaps we could ask the user which person is right?

Allow me to enter an email/linkedin/fb/twitter ID to find the rest of the email
Flowtown.com did this at one point (sorry for the plug)
right now, I'm emailing myself with the email I want to find out then hovering over it.
also, i don't always have their email. if we could use a linkedin ID to find FB, twitter and the rest, that would be awesome.
3 votesHI Zack,
We’re thinking about something like this — after all, it’d make our lives easier when we’re trying to find things ourselves :).

Rapportive should not be intrusive
If Rapportive does not find any social information for my contacts, it should not show anything (empty, tiny, and possibly hidden). This way I can easily read messages from people who don't belong to a social network.
3 votesHi IrFan — thanks for getting in touch! We’ve some plans to make Rapportive both less noisy and more useful when we can’t find any social networks. I’ll keep you updated as things progress

Hi Josh, thanks for the idea — this sounds really interesting.
What kind of database did you have in mind?
Would the idea be to submit the databases for one user (or a few users) only, or were you thinking about public databases to enhance the information for everyone?

Fix a minor display bug
If I resize the text of my gmail window, (command+ '-'), the rapportive sidebar shifts left and overlaps with gmail space.
1 voteHI Sam,
Thank you for getting in touch, and sorry for the time it’s taken me to reply.
I’ve tried a few things, but I can’t seem to get Rapportive to shift left like you describe. Would you have the time to email a screenshot of the problem to supportive@rapportive.com? (To take a screenshot, press command+shift+3, and it will appear on your desktop).

Improve coverage (find information for more people)
For me, Rapportive has only found information on 1 out of about 30 people. It appears as if Rapportive has no real functionality, other than taking away the ads on the right of my Gmail screen. Am I doing something wrong?
0 votesThanks for your feedback. For many people we are able to find useful profiles, but for many other people, our search currently fails. There are lots of reasons for this, and we’re acutely aware of the problem. We are working hard to improve Rapportive; thank you for bearing with us while we iron out these issues!

to support also SeaMonkey browser
i use seamonkey, becouse i hope that in the future can develop the tab-mail reading, with the e-mail client in the same browser's window.
1 voteHi Nicola,
Thanks for the idea!
We want to support more platforms in the future, but it’s very hard to give guarantees on when we’ll manage any particular one.
I’ll keep you updated,

This is a good idea, we’ll be changing our login system over the next fortnight, so it’s important to appreciate the difference between the GMail address and the Rapportive user’s authenticated email address. While at the moment there’s only one Rapportive user in a browser, we expect that to change.
