include info re: transport links (air, tube, traffic) mentioned in the email
Give up to date information about any transportation links mentioned in the email. PUBLIC TRANSPORT - if someone mentions "take the Picadilly line" then pull the current status of that tube line, plus any planned service at future dates (would be really cool to auto-detect any dates mentioned in the email). AIR TRAVEL - pull current flight status of mentioned flight numbers, and traffic delays and weather around mentioned airports. Pull terminal info for mentioned airlines in the closest couple of airports to the user's IP address. ROAD - If someone says "take the 405 south to Long Beach" then…
3 votesThanks Caneel, that’s a really intriguing idea! We’re currently focussed on helping people develop better relationships, so it will be a while until we can look at extra contextual information like this (unless somebody in our developer community takes a look).

Email Name Resolution service
make it somewhat like Email Name Resolution Service which can resolve a email address to different social networking address
3 votesHi Ankur, thanks for the suggestion. How do you imagine this working different to how we work today?

Display upcoming events that people will be attending
This could potentially clutter things up, but it might be good to have the next X (3?) events a person will be attending displayed in-line similar to the most recent tweets.
This could be pulled from Facebook Events (although potentially unprofessional / invasive), or an event planning/scheduling webservice like tungle, eevent, etc.

Provide a search interface to get info about an email address outside of an email
When someone gives me their email address, I'll frequently email it to myself in order to check if I can also connect with them on Twitter, etc.
It would be great to have a search interface for this, to save me the trouble of emailing myself. This might fit within the 'Rapportive' menu, just above the 'Logged in as' / 'Add rapplet' items.37 votesHi James, this is an interesting idea. In these cases, how are people giving your their email address? Is it on a business card, or over the phone, or some other way?

add BantamLive features to the Rapportive app in Google Apps.
I have to download an add-on to my browswer to use the BatamanLive feature with Rapportive. Why not make it compatible with the Rapportive verision that's in my Google Apps account?
3 votesHi there — we’d love to do this. Right now, as we have limited capacity, we’re focussing our efforts on the browser extension version. It’s worth having a go with each to see which you prefer; many people prefer the sidebar on the right hand side. The extension version also allows you to store notes on contacts.

Weather updates
Pull down some weather info and link that to their profile information, based on their location. Often times its better to strike up a little light chat about the the weather (it is sunny where you are) instead of their last tweet (your dog died).
1 voteHi Wesley, that’s an interesting idea. It sounds like a Raplet (a little application inside Rapportive, which can use information from outside sources) would be a good way of doing this. Anyone can write Raplets, so hopefully we’ll see someone make one for Weather info!
Cheers, Martin

Integrate a notes section in Gmail/Facebook Chat
This way when we are chatting with people we can create notes that we should remember in various discussions with this person - these notes should even be visible from their facebook profile and gmail contacts.
This way we can always get back to notes about this person and keep abreast of whats important and going on in their life.
Great for networking.
2 votesHi David, thanks for your idea; I think that’s really interesting. We are looking to make your notes accessible from more places, and we’ll take this into account.

Use pictures from Picasa or Orkut
I use Picasa to organize my 12,000 pictures, with over 500 people's faces recognized. I would like Rapportive to use these pictures.
1 voteInteresting idea, thanks Henrique. I can imagine it would be delightful to see all your own pictures! We’ll have a look how that fits into our plans.

Is the contact available on IM right now?
It would be useful to be able to see if the contact is online, NOW, in real time (when reading the email) — on Facebook chat, Yahoo messenger, Google Talk etc..
34 votesThat’s an interesting idea — thank you! It’s something we should consider.

Hi Nicolas,
I’ve added support to Rapportive so that you can add iXimati profiles to the sidebar (just click on edit my profile at the bottom when you are logged in).
We will certainly add more sites to the list of those we query for information in the future, so we’ll keep you posted on further news.
Thanks for the idea, and sorry it’s taken so long!

to have more robust check on FB accounts. I tried with one of my email assigned with my FB account and it did not give me the expected results....and it happened with many other such addresses.....
1 voteHi John, thanks for your note. Can you explain a bit more about what results you got, and what you were expecting? Did you see incorrect information, or just none at all?
Thanks! — Martin

Remember The Milk
Rapportive Chrome Extension does not work when Remember The Milk (https://www.rememberthemilk.com) extension is installed.
6 votesHi Tomasz,
We’ve got a note in our bug tracker to try to fix this — but it’s hard to work out what to do as both extensions use the same space in Gmail.
If you’re feeling adventurous, Remember The Milk have published a separate Gmail Gadget ( http://www.rememberthemilk.com/services/gmail/gadget/ ) that appears in the left-hand-column, so it doesn’t conflict with Rapportive.
Obviously this isn’t a real fix, but hopefully it is good enough until we have made one — please let me know how you get on.

Not the right person
put a this is not the right person option. I have had several mismatches
16 votesHi Stephen,
Great idea! For the moment we’ve been encouraging users to email supportive@rapportive.com when they notice broken profiles (and I’d encourage you to do the same :) — a button would be a huge improvement.
Thanks

pull my photo from google or linkedin or fb instead of gravatar.
i don't want to have to make a gravatar profile just to edit my photo.
3 votesHi Axel,
Thanks for getting in touch.
If you have a photo on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc. We will use that one instead of Gravatar (if you don’t have a Gravatar).
We tell people to change the photo on Gravatar because it’s guaranteed to work, and makes it clear how public the Rapportive photo is.
In the future, we’re hoping to have a mechanism where you can choose which photo you want us to display — but that might be a while yet, sorry.

Search for hashtags
You should search not just by email but based on subject line too, and not only in account names but in hashtags
3 votesHi Annie — This sounds like an exciting thing to do.
Just to clarify, what kind of information would you envisage us showing based on the subject line?
