    Hi Jeffrey,

Good idea! We do this for some networks, but not for others (trying to reflect whether that functionality works on the given social network). It would be better if we allowed you to use the trailing slash everywhere and automatically fixed the links.

    Thanks
    Conrad

    Hey Ashwin,

Thanks for getting in touch :)

We’ve made a start on this, so we ignore uppercase vs. lowercase differences in all email addresses, and various .s and +s in gmail addresses.

We’re not yet sure how safe it is to ignore .s and +s in email addresses than aren’t gmail. We’ll do some more analysis, and update Rapportive accordingly.

  6. When users get an e-mail from customerservice@usbank.com or discship@netflix.com users could click a button to say this is a legitimate e-mail or a different button to warn that the e-mail address is bogus or questionable. Collecting enough of these would allow rapportive to help weed out phishing attacks.

Thanks Steve, interesting idea! A lot of people are spending a lot of effort on figuring out how to verify whether an email is authentic, so I’m hoping there will be a good solution for it soon. But it’s something we should keep in mind.

    Best,
    Martin

  7. It is great that I can add a note to a contact. However sometimes an email or email thread is what needs the note. Sometime it is a combination of the people in the email thread that needs to be noted not one particular person.

That’s an interesting idea, thanks David.

Can I clarify: when you create a note on a conversation, where do you want to see that note again?
    • Just when you look at that particular conversation again?
    • Or when you look at a different conversation with the same people?
    • Or when you look at the Rapportive profile of any of the people on that conversation?

    Thanks,
    Martin

Hi Idan, thanks for your note. I’m afraid it can vary quite a lot — because of the large number of people we need to deal with, it can sometimes take a long time for the information to get updated.

We’re working on making this better — thanks for bearing with us in the meantime!

    Best,
    Martin

  10. Sometimes I have contacts you can't find but I know who they are on different social networks.
Let us users work for you and add their profile pages!
(I do realize this may be a privacy issue, but still. I'd argue it's the same as mobile apps using your phone's contact list)

    Hi Hamutal,

Thanks for getting in touch :).

This is definitely a good idea, but we’re trying to be really careful about privacy. It’s likely that we’ll eventually add support for this, but it’s going to be a while away yet.

    I’ll keep this story updated.

  11. If you do a keyword search, Gmail puts the results in yellow. Normally when Repportive is off you can turn the highlight off on the right side bar but Repportive blocks it. So it would be nice to be able to turn the highlight off when replying.

    Hi Yoav,

Great idea :). We’re planning to work on some new design ideas for Rapportive, so we’ll try to incorporate some more images in the future.

    Thanks again,

    Hi Rob,

Thanks for getting in touch :).

When someone has a Tungle Me membership listed on their profile (and we fill in those memberships automatically if someone has made their Tungle profile public) we show a button that allows you to click to see the calendar from within gmail.

Do you have ideas for what more we should do here?

    Conrad

  16. I have two gmail accounts for different businesses, one is gmail branded the other uses gmail and google apps under my domain. I have 2 BantamLive accounts. Even though I am signed in correctly rapportive Bantam plugin insists on trying to log me into the original Bantam account from both gmail accounts. Suggestions?

Hi Brecht, thanks for your note. I’m afraid the Bantam Live raplet was developed by Bantam themselves, and so there’s not much we can do about it.

Could you contact Bantam directly about this issue? Sorry that I can’t be of more help.

    Martin

  17. It would be useful to be able to see if the contact is online, NOW, in real time (when reading the email) — on Facebook chat, Yahoo messenger, Google Talk etc..

Hi Vinay, that’s an interesting idea, thank you. I’m not sure exactly how we might be able to do that, since there are lots of people with the same name in the world. But we will probably figure something out.

Great to hear that you’re finding Rapportive useful!

  19. If you can't find a person's photo, display a corporate logo based on the email domain instead. That would be much better than a ?.

I really like the idea — thanks! Often it’s not obvious from a website which picture is actually the corporate logo. However, what we can probably fetch a summary of their site, which would already be more useful than just a question mark.
