Allow indicating when several email addresses are the same person
Many people use two or three email addresses: one for business and the other one for social stuff. If I know both of them, why can't I get the same info on both of them?
We’ve made some progress on this: once you’ve connected your Google Contacts to Rapportive (http://blog.rapportive.com/address-book-inbox-together-at-last), then if you have several email addresses for a contact, we’ll recognise that the different email addresses are the same person, and show the same profile for all of them. This means you can “link” two profiles together by creating a contact in Google Contacts with both of the email addresses – however please note we could take up to a day to notice the change.
If we determine from your Google Contacts that two email addresses are the same person, that will be private to you – i.e. you’ll see the same information for that person from then on, but other people will still see them as separate. That’s because people often want to keep their personal and professional identities separate in public.
We know there are times when you want to link addresses together without mucking around with Google Contacts (especially if you don’t use Google Contacts for anything else!), and we’re still working on a way to support that.
We are also already working on a way for you to say “this email address belongs to me, associate it with my Rapportive profile” (obviously we’ll have to verify it really does belong to you!). That way people will be able to link together all the email addresses they use, if they choose to do so. (I use several email addresses myself, so I appreciate the need for this!)
Will update this when we know when these features are likely to roll out.

Hey Harley, we currently don't equate "username@gmail.com" and "username@googlemail.com". We're planning to let you claim addresses soon, as we think it's one of the most important missing features! Best, Rahul

On this subject, does rapportive recognise all variations of the username in "username@gmail.com" and "username@googlemail.com" as being equivalent?

For me it would be great if I could indicate that a person have another email even if i DON'T have this email in the contact list. E.g. if all the correpsondance I do with the person is through contact@companyname.com and I know that their LinkedIn and Twitter is registred with john.doe@companyname.com and social@companyname.com.. Thank you for this great plugin by the way - GREAT job!

If you can access gmail contacts you can see which email addresses are affiliated with contacts. So if John Doe is in my address book, I would hopefully not have a separate entry for each of his email addresses. In my address book, all his addresses would be in one profile (e.g. work email, personal email 1, personal email 2, etc.).

Kefyn, good to hear from you again :) I can't see how Gravatar profiles allow more than one email address — do you?

Adrian — we're definitely planning to support the ability to link email addresses.

Perhaps Gravatar profile can be used to link the email addresses. You use it for profile images and it allows you to have more than one email address, so link the email addresses.

Yes, I have many client contacts who are active in social media, however, they use their personal email to login to social media. It would be great to be able to enter a person's other email into the app. Or as others say so a search of my contacts for similar names.

Second this, especially for user's own profile. I use a permanent MIT address for all my communications that forwards to/from my gmail account. I can't access and correct information about myself that is associated with my non-gmail address

I agree. As far as I can tell, I only have control over my Gmail identity, not my domain emails.

It would be really helpful if I could associate multiple e-mails to my profile. For example, I often use the "plus" trick in Gmail to filter and label e-mail from social networks - e.g. for my Twitter account I use: hannes+twitter@example.com (although my e-mail is hannes@example.com - which is connected to Gravatar, etc.).

I think like Shalin Shah. Can't you use the google contacts data?
-
Ronan Berder commented
That is indeed pretty important, especially since people usually have a personal email for FB/LinkedIn/... but use their professional email at work.

google contacts allows you to merge contacts (numbers, emails etc) can't you use that data?

One solution would be to pull email addresses which are merged under the same contact in your CRM into the Rapportive search. For example, my BatchBook account has both Bob@consulting.com and Bob@gmail.com as contact email addresses for Bob Barker. So even though I'm looking at an email from Bob@consulting.com, Rapportive pulls both of Bob's email addresses from BatchBook and finds social media bits to pull connected to either email address.

Is it possible for Rapportive to at least recognize via the Gmail contacts list when a given contact record has multiple email addresses - and at least display all of them, say one beneath the other (or ideally join them into one Rapportive contact)?

I would say the most urgent fix is to be able to attach more than one mail address to my own profile.

If this might happen, it'd be nice to automatically join the aliases for gmail addresses (my email address is technically @googlemail.com, but I send everything to/from @gmail.com, they are all identical accounts). I don't think that works with msn/yahoo, but it might.

the same is true of my various email addresses. It seems that only the one that I have registered with shows up. do I have to register with each of my email addresses in order to make it work real well?

Thanks again Gus - that information will definitely be helpful when we come to implement this.
