Display an informative and helpful profile when companies email me
I get notification emails from service@linode.com, notifications from noreply@ebay.com, marketing emails from info@tripbod.com, invoices from support@tunnlr.com
Rapportive should be able to detect non-human From addresses and provide an appropriate panel of information and links.
Information could be as simple as company data (from linked in or companies house).
Links should be something like the google "site links" for the company's domain name, or the most common links on a company's website. Ideally these will be influenced by my browser history so that the links I click on most have highest prominence. (eg. the "my account" link for a site, or "managing server db1" for another site).

When you read an email from a company address or automated system, we’ll now show you a summary of what the company is about, and some useful links for interacting with that company, such as their blog or support site.
The company profiles and links are extracted automatically from the companies’ websites, and our algorithms aren’t perfect. If you see something that looks odd, or could be more helpful, please do email us at support@rapportive.com with the email address you received the message from. That will help us to keep tweaking our algorithms and be useful in more cases.
Thanks for all your suggestions and examples in the comments – they were invaluable in getting this to work.

Voicemails from Google Voice (voice-noreply@google.com) show the "google view", including some unclickable links (Web, Images, Videos, Maps, etc).
This is easily recognizable as a Google Voice email, and to me, it doesn't make sense to have a stripped down google homepage. Don't have any great ideas about what to put there, though.

I think, you can show a link with a little icon in the rapportive panel for informing you about automated emails. manuel emaling can be hard for most users.
an automated email InfoQ <newsletter@mailer.infoq.com>

Thanks for all your comments guys! This is a pretty chunky reply:
Re: auto-confirm@amazon.com, ebay@ebay.com:
I've updated these profiles now. We had an internal discussion about whether to ban all social networks from profiles of companies or not, and decided that some people would like to attach company twitter profiles or facebook pages to their profiles — so we kept them. We do seem to find several incorrect links, though hopefully the problem will begin to go away in time. If you spot anymore, please let supportive@rapportive.com know :).Re: amplify.com, clearcapital.com, pastemagazine.com:
I've updated these profiles as you have suggested — thank you! If you want further changes, please email supportive@rapportive.com, and we'll try our best.Re: newsletter@cbsnews.online.com:
That's interesting, the reason for this is that http://online.com/ redirects to CNET. Both sites are closely connected. I've blanked the profile for now, but will try and work out a fix later.Re: administrate — We just copied what they said in zoneedit.com's description (if you view the source of their home page you will see it too). Besides, it seems that administrate has been used as a (incorrect?) substitute for administer since at least the 1700s, so maybe we can let people off by now :-) http://bit.ly/95BdFO
Re: Translation of foreign pages — that's also a pretty neat idea! We're not doing that for the moment, because we figured that if you get emails from a site, you will speak the language that they do, but we could look at your language preference and try to do some translating. (Realistically it'll probably be machine translation only to start with)

The Twitter acct you have on the auto-confirm@amazon.com Rapportive page (@twitter_stuff) is not an official Amazon account, I think. I don't believe its appropriate to put fan pages on corporate Rapportive summaries.

Company profile info seems to be showing up great for me. Thanks for that!
However the social links for places like ebay@ebay.com or any other customer service related email are usually profiles for very random people.
Certainly ebay isn't a 24 yo female for L.A. CA with dfdsf for a name on myspace. :)
Just letting ya know. You guys rock. -

In your ZoneEdit summary, "adminstrate" is not a real word. Use "administer". Okaythxbye.

I got an email from newsletters@cbsnews.online.com. Rapportive thought it was CNET. Weird.

for mailer@amplify.com - description. I suggest:
Amplify is a service for engaging in conversation. Clip web pages and add your thoughts; microblog; full out blog; share random thoughts, images, video. Post to multiple services. Amplify supports Twitter, Facebook, Facebook Pages, Wordpress, Posterous, Tumblr, and Delicious, among others. It's the social web, your way & content creation made easy.

Translating foreign entries (e.g. gandi.net is default in French, which doesn't mean a lot to me) could be handy :)

Just got an email from Paste Magazine and the name on the Rapportive card was "Paste Magazine :: The Best New Music, Movies, TV, Games, and Books :: Music and Movie News, Reviews, Features, Videos, MP3s and More." It would be simpler if it just said "Paste Magazine." Email address was newsletter@pastemagazine.com

It would be helpful to add a Careers link (www.clearcapital.com/jobs) to our profile. Thanks.

@Chris Maddern, we do try to search for the correct domain or subdomain to use. Any chance you could post an example (here or to supportive@rapportive.com) of an email address that we do the wrong thing for? Thanks!
-
Chris Massey commented
@sam thanks for the info - formatting looks absolutely fine now; I didn't spot it anywhere else, but then I also didn't have any more company emails immediately to hand - if it pops up again & do a few checks before I squeal ;-)

Richard Burton commented
Looked fine but didn't have a white background from skype.com

Should probably consider Second Level Domain. e.g. LoveFilm - come from info.lovefilm.com. The domain does not work, and so the short links don't work.

AdminSam Stokes (Admin, Rapportive) commented
@Chris, the broken formatting can sometimes happen if our servers are running slow or the internet connection has a momentary hiccup. Do you see it on all profiles or just those ones? If you refresh your Gmail tab that should fix it.
I've fixed those bogus social network links on slashdot@slashdot.org and Sales@chainreactioncycles.com - thanks for spotting those, keep letting us know of any that you find!

+1 for unexpected but awesome - a few issues to report, though:
The info all looks kosher (apart from one link I'll mention in a sec), but the formatting was a bit crazy. The header was, unsurprisingly, large and bold, but it also took up almost half the sidebar. The summary was almost as long, pushing the links way down.
If I scrolled to the bottom of the page, the content of the Rapportive sidebar extended out beyond the white space, and the Google ads popped back into existence underneath it, creating a nasty overlay effect.
Oh, and it included a random link to a bebo account (http://www.bebo.com/c/profile?MemberId=638177817) which has nothing to do with the company (as far as I can tell), and the link seemed to have the bebo icon as a background, which was odd.
</braindump> Minor tweaks aside, it's very handy - thanks guys!
