Let me hide private notes from the screen

Keep private notes private by hiding them until a user clicks a "reveal" link. Private notes are great, but when your laptop is connected to a projector and you pull up a file in an e-mail that someone just sent, the whole room sees your notes on the sender, too.

Hi Sean, thanks for your suggestion. I must admit that we hadn’t anticipated notes appearing on projectors! We’ll think about letting you hide the notes, although we try to keep Rapportive as simple as possible, so we don’t like adding more buttons if we can avoid it.

For now, can you use a simple workaround, like making your Gmail window wider than the screen, and moving it off the right-hand side of the screen, so that the Rapportive sidebar is outside of the area of the screen shown by the projector?

    The workaround isn't really a work-around, as it then also moves a portion of my browser (which often has things -- such as extensions in the case of Chrome -- that are necessary).

    In terms of an additional button, I don't think a "click to see notes" link in the place of the actual text would be such a tough or unwelcome implementation. It could also be implemented / turned on via an options screen, and should be a pretty simple preference to detect.

    Thanks for considering the suggestion. I hope that Rapportive includes "over the shoulder" in its definition of "private" on notes, or as a minimal response, reminds users. For me, this has become a dealbreaker; I cannot use Rapportive to store notes and so the feature is effectively dead (and would have been one of my favorite features, this aside).

    Other scenarios: imagine a business opening an e-mail from a client for reference during a meeting and the client seeing any CRM-style notes for the client. Could be very embarrassing depending on the situation.
