Also enhance data in the Contacts view
It'd be neat to have Rapportive enhance the contact data for a person right in their profile in the Contacts (address book) view.
Could you suggest how you would like this to work? We don’t want to run the risk of being confusing – if we show our sidebar, which is basically a contact record, next to the existing Google contact record, it would look a bit weird, especially if the data we have isn’t the same as what you’ve got in your address book.
What would you find most useful to augment Google Contacts? Or is the main benefit that you’d be able to search directly for a contact (as Michelle describes) rather than having to first find an email from them?

For example: I have several contacts that I have no idea where they came from, so the Rapportive Sidebar would be handy in gathering a little more info about them.

This is definitely a strange omission for a service that focuses on contact management. I don't want to have to find an email from someone in order to see their profile. In some cases there are no emails exchanged. I would like to be able to import Rapportive data (social networks, etc...) directly into my Google contacts if possible. I'm not sure how all the fields would map in the case of certain data.

responding on same "suggest how this works".
now creating a new contact i'm adding information (like e-mail and mobile number) however, I would like to add 'function', which I take from linkedin or rapportive. In that case it is very easy to see rapportive directly next to my (new) contact view, with the same info I have now in my e-mail view... -

I don't see any more "confusion" than seeing them in the gmail view. And there are certain functions like networking/CRM that are better done from the contact view.

I agree - I like this because if there's someone whose email I have but I don't remember or have who they are in G Contacts, I can check with Rapportive.

I fully support the idea of a rapportive sidebar in the various GMail Contact views, in fact I so strongly expected this that the first time I went to the Contact mode of GMail after adding rapportive I looked hard for it or for a way to activate it in the rapportive menu. And I agree with most comments and suggestions already given. I think it would be very efficient in the Group View, where you have a list of people in a group you have defined, and you would like to know more about a given contact in this group without leaving the list view. The current view offered by Gmail is not very smart, and any tool from you to clean up groups, add pertinent info from other social networks would be a fantastic improvement to contact management.
On a related note, Facebook and Twitter have contact types or lists, and when managing Gmail groups, it would be useful to see in what list or contact type they have been classed in Facebook or twitter to fix certain inconsistencies.

Rapportive gets what other CRM don't seem to, we need to stay in Google and overlay services rather than navigating away or as Google evolves we won't see/stay current and fluent.
Currently I pay Solve360 for services that take me away from Google, and I don't like that. I need to keep my Google skills current, not learn another interface.
I see rapportive showing recent e-mails, calendar events, and phone calls in the contacts view on the right margin, same as in mail.
Possibly tasks connected to the contact as you develop an interface with tasks (saw it suggested elsewhere)

Agree with the suggestion to show buttons to invite/link on social networks. Also...
- recent emails/attachments (sent & received)
- social network updates (twitter, LI, FB, G+)
- other rapportive plugins (crunchbase, git, etc.) -

so I can add people to my social network from google contacts, easily, without importing into FB. LN ..

I add my support to some of the other comments: A sidebar alongside the Contact's record just the same as the sidebar alongside Gmail messages.
One use case for this: send invitations to connect on LinkedIn and FB as you soon as you add a new contact. This is available with the Outlook Social Connector, and is enormously valuable.

I've been thinking the same thing. Mostly because it would let me do that CRM-style thing - having a list of important contacts as a group in Contacts and being able to review the last time I contacted them, notes I made, their recent tweets and FB.

If it is clearly indicated as Rapportive, and the same style as in Gmail, it should not be confusing, but very useful.
In addition of having a button to "copy" data across into the contacts database (one way, not sync!) -

I would like if it simply had the Rapportive sidebar beside the normal view. If the data you have isn't the same as in the address book? Well, that is exactly why I want it next to each other, so I can complement one with the other.
Not having to find an email is also a large reason for me.

My vote was (appropriately) assigned to this thread since my idea was essentially a duplicate of this one. Unfortunately my commentary did not copy over to this thread to add to this discussion (hint for admin's: please copy over commentary when re-assigning votes).
My comment on this topic was:
Please put the Rapportive sidebar up not just when I am in my Gmail mail viewer, but also when I am in a Contacts detail window. Bonus would be (as mentioned in other requests) to then be able to sync info (even on a manual button press basis) between my Google contacts and the Rapportive information.Super bonus would be to restructure the Contact detail area completely so that it becomes a socially aware CRM contact window (think Gist web contact viewer) that expands on the info available in the Rapportive sidebar.

As Michelle says, main benefit would be to see the contacts social info and notes. As long as the two data sources (Contacts and Rapportive) are visually distinct on the page, then it wouldn't be confusing (at least for me).
I actually find it odd (and a bit restrictive) that I can only see the Rapportive info in emails.

biggest thing to see is notes, i actually dont think it would look weird having the full bar shown next to a contact you choose...

I think the new contact view in gmail should give enough room to have the standard Rapportive sidebar if you are able to integrate the two?

Yes, it would be great to have rapportive show information when I am viewing a contact in Gmail, so I can see the notes, etc. I have made about them right there. (right now I have to search for an email from that person to see the notes... which works, but is not great).

But people rarely use their corporate email in social networks, while rapportive is highly helpful when doing business (thanks for the enhancement)

Plus, it'd be great to be able to copy this data into the profile as idea #527051 suggests: https://rapportive.uservoice.com/forums/42557-general/suggestions/527051-allow-me-to-copy-some-or-all-of-the-info-found-by-?ref=title
