  2. "Rapportive" does an excellent job of suppressing Google adverts on right side. Consider adding a button to turn off the Social connections it provides instead. It would increase screen viewable area for e-mails et cetera.

  3. I HATE having to copy a phone # in an email, switch over to my Contacts, search for the contact, Edit them, add it, click Save... Rapportive can just parse for phone #'s and offer to add them to the Google Contacts record right from the email sidebar.

  4. Hovering over a hyperlinked e-mail address reveals the matching profile, which is great. Even more convenient would be a listing out of those addresses in the right sidebar to save scrolling through an e-mail conversation. Not sure where the ideal location would be. Below the profile, perhaps?

As Rob notes in the description, you can already look up other addresses in a conversation by hovering the mouse over them. This works both for other people the email was sent to (in the header at the top of each email), and for email addresses written in the email itself.

We know it’s not obvious that you can do that! We’re planning to redesign the sidebar soon, and that will probably offer a more discoverable way to view profiles for all the people in the conversation. We’ll update here when there’s news.

  5. How about if yuo couldn't find any information related to the e-mail, you can search using the name and surname across social networks, and if there is too many results, the user can choose from a list?

  6. when you are emailing with multiple recipients/senders, rapportive only displays info for the last one. show info for up to 3 contacts. maybe you can have a more link to allow people to choose to expand if they want.

Hi Mina, thanks for the feedback — we’re looking into this. In the meantime, you can hover your mouse over peoples’ names in the sender and recipient lists, and we’ll show their details.

    Does that help?

    Best,
    Rahul

  7. After posting an add in Craigslist.org, I received a few emails of interest. A few were scammers looking to spam my email, address, phone, and who knows what else! So having an alert would be nice before I give out any more personal information.

  10. I frequently will respond to a potential customer's email and then want to go back to that client's name and enter in a note about said email. It would be great to add a plugin so that before I send the email, I could associate it with that person's name, so that other people from my company could see the email record. 37 Signal's Highrise has a feature like this, but I prefer to respond to a request and associate it with a person in one fell swoop, not with a separate tab in a different product.

  12. I have the CrunchBase raplet enabled. A lot of the people I talk to don't have CrunchBase pages dedicated to them. As such, the raplet is always saying "no data available for XYZ". It would be great if this could be hidden when there's nothing to say.

Hey Larry, that’s a good point. We’re planning a redesign of the sidebar which will hide Raplets containing no useful information. Thanks for bearing with us as we work on this!

  13. For people whose email addresses' domains also have a website, you could peek into the site and display images from the site like happens on Facebook when posting a link from a page.

I understand this is magic, but it seems like you could do this well below a certain popularity of domain (after the top million?).

Also, and perhaps more reliably, you could look at URLs in the sig of the message.

This would give more ways to see what the person looks like online overall, not just social networks. This would be more helpful than social networks for…

I really like the idea — thanks! Often it’s not obvious from a website which picture is actually the corporate logo. However, what we can probably fetch a summary of their site, which would already be more useful than just a question mark.

    Hi Alan,

Thanks for getting in touch, and well noticed!

We’re planning to update the style of the menu bar to fit in with the shiny-new Google Bar http://bit.ly/hQmKII — I’ve added fixing the hover behaviour to the list of things to look at.

    Thanks again,
    Conrad

    Thanks again John.

We wanted to do this too, but as far as we can tell Facebook doesn’t expose that functionality in the official APIs we’re using to allow you to add a friend.

If that changes, we’ll be sure to update Rapportive.

    Conrad

  18. Sharing a Dropbox folder through Rapportive might be useful. Dropbox has a public folder but it's configured to only permit sharing of individual files, not the entire directory. But there is a shared folders function, you just have to invite users via email. Perhaps a Dropbox raplet for a shared directory specified by the user, and a "Share Files" button, that alerts the Dropbox owner one of their contacts would like access?

    Hi Jonah,

Interesting idea — let me be sure I’ve got what you’re suggesting:

I (on my Rapportive profile) publish my dropbox folder, and then you (my friend) can see that I have a shared dropbox folder and ask for access to it with a single click?

  20. In google apps you now have personal contacts and domain level contacts - when I click on Google contact - it should show me BOTH versions of this persons information, not just MY contact version.
